Meet Gerolamo Emiliani
Better known as, Saint Jerome. He was a badass saint that lived in Italy from 1486-1537. After running away from home at the age of 15 to join the army, he ended up giving his life in service to God which inevitably led him to radically pursue caring for the overlooked and forgotten.
If Saint Jerome had a baseball card, here’s what his stats would be:
- Built 3 orphanages for abandoned children
- Established one hospital
- Fed the hungry
- Built a hostel for prostitutes wanting to start a new life
- Did all of it at his own expense
He died in 1537 from the plague, which he contracted as a result of caring for those who were infected that no one else wanted to tend to.
